Octo ATS NEW job advert analysis functionality

At Blue Octopus we know diversity and the gender-pay gap is a key focus for many UK organisations. Therefore we have conducted research into how the language of a job ad could impact on diversity. We have now implemented specialist functionality into our Octo ATS, for hiring managers to be able to score job adverts based on gender bias and education.

The most visible aspect of hiring that influences the makeup of your candidate pool is your job descriptions. The words used in job adverts could be repelling or attracting candidates, based on their gender. The most qualified candidates may not apply to your open roles because they are turned off by the language that you use.

Our ATS system Octo, scores job adverts based on gender bias and education. To ensure the advert is equal and diverse.

How does the new functionality work ?

  • Once you are logged into our Octo system, you view any vacancy, and swap to the Advertisement tab you will see the scoring area.

  • The Octo score is our internal ’good practice’ algorithm, which takes 8 factors into account to generate a score out of 90.

  • The education score is based on the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, translated to the UK Education system.

  • The gender bias is on an article in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology by Gaucher, Friesen and Kay, in 2011. Note the study only focused on a male/female split, ignoring any other genders/sexualities.

Please note, all the scores are guidelines only.

Functionality like this is usually used through separate softwares, where as with Octo you are able to score your job adverts within the ATS, it’s that simple.
